What We’re Watching Lately

How accurate is this?? I figured while I’m on my medium screen typing this post up, and you’re probably on a small or medium screen reading this, let’s talk about what we’ve been watching on our big screens lately!

Gary and I are big binge-watchers. Him more than me, for sure, but if I get sucked into something I can watch it all. day. long. I only get up when my Apple watch starts yelling at me that I can still close all of my activity rings when in reality, all hope for that has been lost! Such 2021 problems…

We’ve been in a bit of a lull/dry spell with our TV show watching, despite having pretty much every streaming service under the sun. Here are a few shows that we’ve been watching…

Schitt’s Creek (Netflix) – Honestly, we started watching this show months ago, made it halfway through the first season, and then stopped watching. Lately, I’ve had a bunch of friends rave about how funny this show is, so we restarted it. I will say, it definitely felt slow at the beginning, but now that we’re on Season 3 we both really enjoy it! I personally love that they are quick episodes (less than 30 minutes), so it doesn’t feel like a huge commitment to put an episode on.

One Day at a Time (Netflix) – We finished this show during the holiday break, and I miss it so much already! I loved how quirky each of the characters was, how the show managed to tackle difficult topics without feeling too heavy and to top it all off, the theme song was so catchy! Am I the only one who considers theme songs when rating shows? No skipping the intros over here!

Married at First Sight (Hulu) – Alright, we’re transitioning from wholesome family content, right into reality TV. This show is addictive. Gary and I especially like watching each couple go on their honeymoons and move in together. We always feel so good about our marriage after watching! But in all seriousness, there are some very sweet moments that this show captures and it is definitely less of a hot mess than The Bachelor (which we are also watching right now)!

Every single weekend without fail, when I ask Gary if there’s anything special he wants to do, he says, “Maybe we can watch a movie?” Movies and popcorn are the way to his heart! I definitely have to be in a movie-watching mood, but being the ability to get cozy under blankets in the winter usually is enough to convince me. Here are a few movies we’ve enjoyed lately…

Safety (Disney+) – If you like feel-good sports movies, this one is definitely for you! It isn’t too sports heavy, or else I wouldn’t have understood what was happening. It had a great plot that reminded me of The Blind Side in many ways. Even though it was 2 hours long, it kept my attention the whole time (and that definitely says something)!

Mulan (Disney+) – We have absolutely loved watching the live-action remakes of Disney classics, and we definitely don’t consider ourselves Disney movie fanatics by any means. However, Aladdin and The Lion King were great, so the bar was set pretty high for this one! As a whole, we enjoyed it. One of my favorite parts of Mulan, though, is the soundtrack, so it was challenging for me to not be able to sing along to all of those catchy songs. Gary was disappointed that Mushu wasn’t in this version, either. There were lots of great action scenes, and I think it captured the spirit of Mulan well.

Happiest Season (Hulu) – Does anyone else forget that Hulu has original movies? I definitely do! I’m down to watch a cheesy holiday movie any time of year, so I was excited to discover this movie even after the holiday season! It had an all-star cast (we loved seeing Daniel Levy from Schitt’s Creek), it had relatable family dysfunction, and a wonderfully happy ending. I highly recommend checking this one out!

Phew, that was a lot! What have you all been watching and enjoying lately? I’d love it if you left some recommendations in the comments!

xoxo

Jennifer
