Step into my Office

After 19 months of working from home full time, I finally transitioned to a hybrid work from home/work in the office schedule this week! In honor of that, and because I haven’t shared photos of our new home on the blog yet, I figured this would be the perfect time to give a quick home office tour!

Before we dive into looking at my current home office space, let’s take a moment to look back at where my work from home life started in March of 2020.

Gary and I lived in a one bedroom apartment when we both got sent home from our respective offices due to COVID-19 shutdowns. We obviously did not have enough space for two legitimate desk setups at the time, so I worked at this DIY work station for many months! I still crack up when I look at this photo…a tiny table stacked on old printer paper boxes and grad school books. Ha!

After Gary went back to his office, I took over our home desk space. While that was certainly a step up from my previous set up, it was in our dining area. There was no separation between home life and work life, the space always felt messy, and it had no personality.

The minute I toured our new house (before we even put in an offer), I claimed my home office space. It was bright, yet cozy, and it just spoke to me on so many levels…you’ll see why in just a second!

So, step into my office and take a look around!

My home office is on the second floor of our house, and I love that it’s such a welcoming space. This is the view from just outside the doorway.

I bet you can see why I claimed this room as mine, right? I adore the floral wallpaper mural on the wall. The previous owners used this room as a baby nursery, which was absolutely adorable, but I don’t find the mural to be overly childish in any way.

Fun fact: I’m actually not a flowery person AT ALL (aside from loving fresh flowers). Even when I was planning our wedding, I was not drawn to florally invitations or themes. I would have never picked this wallpaper in a million years, but the minute I saw it I became obsessed with it.

Other things I love about this space include the natural light from the window, the ceiling fan, and of course my fuzzy slippers under my desk and cozy blanket on my chair. This chair will be going back to my office on campus eventually, so I’m trying to find an ergonomic chair that will look good in this space. I’m leaning toward white, but I welcome all suggestions!

I wanted to keep this space fairly minimalist, but my pink chair and Carlton the elephant (a gift from Gary from when we were dating), just fit so well. Eventually, I’d like to swap out this chair for something comfier/something that matches the space better, but for now this will do!

And of course, I need to give a special spotlight to my rainbow bookcase! For those of you that watch The Home Edit, I hope this speaks to your soul like it does to mine. Gary thought it was completely dumb to organize our books by color, but I got the idea from The Home Edit and wanted to give it a try. Well, I’m sold. I love it. We are officially only allowed to purchase books with navy or grey book bindings from here on out!

As for what’s on my desk? I love having a clean workspace with multiple monitors. You can always find me with colorful pens and markers, sticky notes, and a notebook. There’s usually a bkr bottle (or two) up here as well…I take hydration very seriously!

Well, that’s it for my quick home office tour! I can’t wait to share more of our home with you in future posts! Wishing you all a cozy fall weekend 🙂

xoxo
