I haven’t done a post about what we’ve been watching on our streaming services in a few months, and that must mean we’ve watched hundreds of hours of TV and movies since then, right? We’ve spent many days parked in front of the TV for one reason or another, so we might as well share some recommendations!
So what have we been watching?
Firefly Lane (Netflix) – This is a relatively new series to Netflix, so there’s only one season out as of now. But, for the sake of full disclosure, I must admit that Gary and I watched the whole season within 48 hours. I don’t know what it was, but we couldn’t turn away! If you’re a fan of This is Us, you’ll enjoy the flashback style of this show, and if you’re a Katherine Heigl fan (like I am), this is a must-see. We can’t wait for a second season because it ended on a major cliffhanger!
Ginny & Georgia (Netflix) – I saw some articles online that compared this show to Gilmore Girls, and since I loved that show so much, we just had to watch this! I must say, aside from the hot mess mother and dysfunctional family dynamics, I really didn’t see that many similarities between the two shows. With that being said, we enjoyed watching this show and also finished this one in one weekend. We might (and by might I mean most likely) have a binge-watching problem. I definitely felt old at times, and 1000% do not remember high school being like that, but maybe that says more about me than the show. Ha!
Marriage or Mortgage (Netflix) – The title of this show alone sucked me in! Couples in Nashville set a budget that they would use for a down payment on a home or that they would use to pay for a wedding. Then they meet with a realtor and a wedding planner, get shown all sorts of fun things to sway them either way, and then at the end, they have to make a decision. I must say, Gary and I were quite literally shouting at the TV during some of these episodes. It was a trip!
Nadiya Bakes (Netflix) – If you like baking and you’re looking for the ultimate feel-good show, this is it! Nadiya is so incredibly likable. She has such a fun way of describing her baking and tasting processes, and to top it all off, this show includes time-lapse videos of items baking in the oven. I was mesmerized! Nadiya also has a show called Nadiya’s Time to Eat, which is definitely on our watch list!
Good Girls (Netflix) – When I first drafted this list, I almost forgot Good Girls! This show isn’t new to us, since there are several seasons already available on Netflix. Let me be honest here…this show makes my palms sweat. But, it’s not too scary or violent. It’s actually hilarious! I love the actresses, the plot makes it so hard to look away, and I can’t wait for the next season.
Zero Chill (Netflix) – This is another new show on Netflix, and we just finished the first (and only) season as of now. I wouldn’t say it was my favorite show ever…it definitely took me a few episodes to get into it and to understand what the heck was happening. But, if you like ice skating and/or hockey movies (like I do), it’s definitely worth giving it a try, and it got better as it progressed. Gary and I would both be slightly surprised if it got renewed for a second season, though.
Here are three movies we’ve enjoyed lately as well!
Seaspiracy (Netflix) – Gary and I love a good documentary that involves a look at our oceans. We know they’re usually depressing, but we just can’t look away. This one is a must-see. If nothing else, it’ll definitely make you think twice about what “dolphin-safe” means (or doesn’t mean) on a tuna can. It was equal parts fascinating and horrifying in my opinion.
Abominable (Hulu) – Does anyone else appreciate a solid animated movie as much as we do? Last week I asked Gary if we’d ever seen Abominable, and after he determined we hadn’t, we had a spur-of-the-moment movie night…on a Tuesday! That’s rare for us, in case you didn’t know. This movie was adorable. It had a cute storyline, an interesting villain, some very soft looking characters, and a happily ever after š
Plus One (Hulu) – Sometimes I’m surprised that there’s a chick flick left on the planet that I haven’t forced Gary into watching, and then I surprise myself and find another! This movie was under two hours, had both of us chuckling throughout, and had a fun (yet predictable) plot. I’ll call it a win!
I suppose it’s a good thing that I only do these posts every few months, or you might be legitimately alarmed by how much we actually watch! I swear, once we’re fully vaccinated and the pandemic has subsided, we’ll cool it on the screens…for a bit š Is there anything on your watch list that you think we’d enjoy? Thanks for your suggestions! I highly recommend the series, ” The Durrells in Corfu” (Amazon Prime, I think)
about a British family (with 3 teenagers) that begins life on the island in Greece. It is a wonderful story. You get to know each character, warts and all. It’s based on a trilogy of books written by one of the sons.
We also liked “800 words” -also Amazon Prime. – Thx again, Bethany (I work with Sue at the school)
Thanks for the suggestions, Bethany! We will definitely add them to our list of things to watch…it seems like the list is neverending!
