Last week I raved about my Game Changing GreenPans, so I figured the timing was just right to share a recipe that I make in mine! Despite having a cheesy sauce that would stick to other pans, it literally slides right out of this one! Have you bought yourself one yet??
My one pan cheesy sausage pasta comes together in 30 minutes, and is made with what I consider to be refrigerator and pantry staples. It has all of the main food groups — meat, cheese, and carbs. I never claimed that it was healthy! 😉
The first time I made this, Gary and I both agreed that it tasted like a pasta dish that would be on a restaurant menu. It just has the perfect blend of flavors, great texture, and a tiny bit of heat. It’s perfect for your everyday dinner at home, or for impressing guests. I hope you enjoy!

One Pan Cheesy Sausage Pasta

minutesA delectably cheesy pasta dish that gets on the table in half an hour!
Ingredients
1 TBSP Olive Oil
16 oz. Sliced Smoked Sausage
1/2 Cup Diced Yellow Onion
1 TBSP Minced Garlic
1/4 TSP Salt
1/2 TSP Black Pepper
1/4 TSP Red Pepper Flakes
2 Cups Chicken Broth
1 Can Diced Tomatoes (14 oz.)
1 Cup Milk
16 oz. Uncooked Penne Pasta
2 + 1/2 Cups Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1/2 Cup Chopped Green Onions
Directions
- Slice smoked sausage into ~1/4 inch thick pieces (semi-circles are the best in my opinion) and set aside. Dice yellow onion, chop green onion, and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a 5 quart saute pan over medium heat. Add in smoked sausage and diced onion and saute for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add in garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine, and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Add in chicken broth, tomatoes, milk, and pasta, and bring to a boil. All of the pasta should be in the liquid, though they don’t have to be completely covered. Once the mixture begins to boil, lower heat and cover for 15 minutes. Uncover and stir at the halfway point to ensure the pasta cooks evenly.
- Uncover pan and stir in cheese. Mix in green onion, leaving some for garnish on the top.
- Remove pan from heat, and garnish individual servings with remaining green onion. Enjoy!
Notes
- This recipe turns out equally wonderful if you use regular, whole wheat, or brown rice pasta. No adjustments needed.
- If you’re a spice lover (or spice averse), the amount of red pepper flakes can be adjusted. The current amount adds a nice subtle heat to the dish without it being overpowering.
