Life Lately – Holiday Break 2020

Well, our holiday break certainly looked different than usual this year, but we made the most of it! Here’s a look back on some of our Holiday Break fun as we wrapped up 2020 and headed into 2021.

Cookies. Holy moly. Cookies were baked, cookies were decorated, cookies were consumed. And then the cycle repeated itself. I made Gary’s favorite red and green M&M Christmas cookies, and we decorated sugar cookies from a kit I picked up at Trader Joe’s. Can you tell which cookies I decorated and which ones Gary decorated?

We brought out all the stops and made a delicious Christmas Eve dinner…this Jewish girl made her first ham! We had a leisurely Christmas morning opening up presents, and then we had a family Zoom call later in the day. You know you’re an adult when you get extraordinarily excited about new glass food storage containers with snap lids!

Gary finally let me cut his hair the day after Christmas. Woo! Since the pandemic started, I’ve cut his hair 3 or 4 times, and it still stresses me out! Gary couldn’t care less about what his hair looks like, but I’m clearly too much of a perfectionist for cosmetology. The process takes at least 90 minutes, and I need to have the TV on in the background to keep Gary entertained.

We got creative with gifts this year given that we knew we were going to be doing a lot of hanging out at home. Lego sets, adult paint by number, and Mario Kart, oh my! We had a blast bringing back some of our childhood this holiday season.

By the time New Year’s Eve came around, I was convinced that I was at least 25% ham and mac n’ cheese. Did that stop me from making more goodies for our night in, though? Absolutely not! I saw this on Instagram and felt it in my soul!

Our New Year’s Eve menu consisted of appetizers. I made homemade soft pretzel bites (so delicious to eat, but such a mess to make), amazing smoked salmon crostini, homemade BBQ meatballs, charcuterie (of course), and we also had some yummy pre-made Trader Joe’s spinach dip on baguette. From the photos, it looks like we had enough food for 10, but it was definitely just the two of us!!

For the first time in a long time, I actually made it to midnight this year! We celebrated New York New Year’s at 9, but by midnight out here, we were all snuggled up in bed, just the way I like it. From our family to yours, we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2021!

xoxo

Jennifer
